When your days begin this way, you know it’s time for a new healthy morning routine:
You wakeup.
You’re late again, you left yourself no time to shower and you’re running out the door with the clothes you wore yesterday, a granola bar in your hand and your shoes untied.
You ask yourself: why am I always late? Why am I so unorganized?
The answer is simple – because you don’t have a morning routine! A morning routine is essential for being productive and organized in the morning.
Before I created my own personalized morning routine I was constantly late and unprepared for whatever event or task I was trying to get to.
The amount of times I would hit the snooze button, wear my dirty work uniform, show up hungover, skip my shower and my breakfast… Too many times.
Now after creating and sticking to a proper morning routine personalized to my needs, I have much more productive days and happier more organized mornings.
In this post we are going to go over how to create the perfect morning routine for YOU so that you can have the most productive and positive mornings possible!
Benefits of a Morning Routine
- Better time management
- Creates structure in your life
- Allows you to feel better about yourself
- Enables you to be more productive
- Sets your day up for success
- More “you” time before school, work or whatever you have planned for the day
1. Get Ready the Night Before & Sleep Earlier
Make a mental or physical list of everything you want to get done before you have to leave the house the next morning.
What are you having for breakfast?
What are you going to wear tomorrow and is it clean?
What time are you waking up?
What time do you need to be out of the house by?
Making a list of all of these things the night before allows you to be more organized in the morning. It also saves you time from staring into the fridge wondering what do I make for breakfast? Or digging through the closet looking for a certain t-shirt when it’s in the dirty pile the entire time.
2. Avoid the Snooze Button
This is one thing I am very guilty of – hitting the snooze button. It’s very easy to say you’re going to wakeup at 8am to shower and make a healthy breakfast, only to decide to sleep in until 8:45am, ditch the shower for some dry shampoo and grab a granola bar on the way out the door.
You need to set a certain time to get out of bed and commit to that. Otherwise, you won’t have enough time to be organized and awake in the mornings.
3. Make your bed
This sounds simple but making your bed is something a lot of people don’t do in the morning. Getting into the habit of making your bed sets the mood for the day giving you more motivation to complete tasks. It also makes it more desirable to get into bed the next night for a better sleep.
4. Stretching or Meditation
Nothing wakes you up and makes you feel better like a good morning stretch or meditation. Getting into the habit of doing one of these two every morning will brighten your mood and make you feel more awake and ready for the day. Anywhere from 5-10 minutes every morning is perfect and will completely change the mood of your morning.
5. Have Coffee or Water
Before breakfast make sure to wake yourself – and your stomach – up before breakfast. Coffee, tea, or water is a great way to start the morning and to open up your stomach for when you go to eat breakfast.
6. Morning Skin Care Routine
Everyone talks about their night time skin care routine but the morning is just as important!
You need to wash off the residue of all the products you used at night so that you have a clean skin base if you plan to do your morning makeup. It is also good just to refresh the skin and add back moisture into it as well as cleanse off anything from your sleep.
My Morning Routine for Skin Care
- Wash my face with an oil based cleanser and rinse
- Gentle toner with cotton pad
- Water cream moisturizer (not too thick or heavy)
- Cooling under eye patches for 5-10 minutes
- Under eye moisturizing cream

7. Eat a Healthy Breakfast
The best way to do this is to plan the night before what you want to eat in the morning. Pre-making healthy granola bars, smoothies or egg bites are great ideas for something quick and healthy.
Quick Morning Routine Breakfast Ideas:
- Egg bites
- Avocado on toast
- Smoothies
- Home made granola bars
- Oatmeal
- Yogurt with berries and granola
- Tomato & cheese toasted sandwich
- Turkey bacon & mashed avocado sandwich
8. Eliminate Distractions
Try to decrease the amount of distractions around you, this only takes up time in the morning where you could be doing something productive.
Distractions are different for everyone whether its scrolling on your phone, watching TV or checking unnecessary emails.
Try to stay focused in the morning and find alternatives to your distractions. Try reading while you enjoy your coffee or breakfast instead of turning on the television. Instead of scrolling through your phone and texting while doing your makeup, try putting some music on in the background instead.
9. Makeup & Hair
Make sure you give yourself enough time to do your hair and makeup. When you look good, you feel good. Sit in front of the mirror or wherever you do your makeup usually and put on some of your favourite music. This will boost your mood, make you feel better and will help you to not check your phone as often as well.
10. Write Down Important Goals & Tasks
Make a list of everything you need to get done for the day in order of most important to least important. It’s a fact that people who create lists are more successful in their daily tasks. This also helps you to organize everything that needs to get done that day so that you don’t forget something.
